The Mayhem Mistake.

Why Mayhem is a Mistake!
Most boxing fans, as of late, tend to fall into three categories. You are either a real fan, one who watches most boxing and really studies the science of the sport, you love to hate Floyd Mayweather, as many do,  or you are someone who grew up watching classic JJC and Mike Tyson fights, wishing every bout resembled them. Either way most people who care even a little about boxing will watch the Mayhem PPV.
Are you ready to be disappointed?
If you aren't a fan of the science that is boxing, you should be. Very few rematches ever live up to being as good as the first match. Examples are practically endless: Chad Dawson vs. Antonio Tarver, Evander Holyfield vs. John Ruiz, even B-hop vs. Roy Jones.
Floyd is no longer a knockout fighter. Yes, he once was. The reason that’s no longer the case is simple: he needs to be undefeated to keep making money, and we all know nothing is more important to Money May than dollar signs! Fight after fight we see Floyd give up the first few rounds, occasionally getting into minor “slug fests.” But fight after fight he becomes a boxer, using his quickness and defense to take control.
It’s true that Chino had an absurd output of punches for the first six rounds back in May, but he never hurt Floyd! As much as I want to see Floyd lose, he won’t! Floyd simply won’t let Chino get him on the inside. He’s going to grab and hold, which will force Referee Kenny Bayless, known for his quick breaks, do just that. Chino’s best chance is to win inside, but Floyd will not let him. Floyd is going to “run” and keep Chino away with his jab.
If you’re thinking this rematch is going to be as explosive as the first be prepared to be furious! You’re going to waste your money if you’re going into this fight thinking it’s going to be a brawl. Defense wins, as is the case with most sports, and Floyd will win a slow, boring fight.
Make no mistake. Chino is going for a knockout.  He will attempt to throw over 100 punches a round. The only reason people think Chino won the first half of the fight last time around is because he threw over 100 punches per round, only to end up slowing down as Floyd dictated the pace.
I’d love to see Floyd brawl, but he won’t. I’d love to see Floyd get hurt, but he won’t. Most of all, I would love to see Floyd lose. You know the rest.

New to here not life!

Can I post without writing anything? That’s what happen last week…..NOTHING! I never thought I bigger market meant less storytelling, I really thought I’d be able to tell stories like crazy! Monday is just about wrapped up and another work week is on its way. I’ve made up my mind to work on something my next weekend to at least give my mind a break (ironically working is keeping my mind bored). I’m not sure what stories will be up this week but again I will do my best and be engaged! Everyone who works here are very happy and nice people. Maybe too nice? I know I’m new to the station but I am not new to life, telling me some things that are only done here is helpful but telling how to do things that universally done everywhere is just annoying. I hope this week turns into something where at least I feel useful!

Last week of July

This week has come and gone, it’s Friday and it’s my day off but since I have nothing else to do I’m still working! On my first week here I was asked to do a story on a little girl name Emily. She was diagnosed with leukemia just before her second birthday. Today she is now cancer free and living a good life with her family. It’s an honor to be given a story like this so quickly into my tenure here. The EP of the morning show could just e blowing smoke up my ass but challenge accepted! This week I got to work with all but one reporters this shift has to offer. Monday I worked with the versed report Dave Marquez, I heard the stories of him being wild, brash but amazing to work with. Unfortunately for him and me, he was ill and he just wasn't himself. All day he stayed hunched over as if he was about to take his last breath. I've never seen a man look so close to death and be far from it. Our story was simple, easy, and fun. A man using his drone got video of the Sand Fire. Drones have been a hot topic for many people, these drones are small and meant more for family shots and are nowhere near the size of the military. Fire officials heard of his flying and contacted asking him to stop, the viewer stopped cause he meant no harm, he just “wanted to get video and show my friends”. The story was a challenge because we got a late start, and Dave wasn't himself. In the end, I think the story was solid! Perfect illustration of what I can do when having to shoot fast, and work with someone completely new (to me). Tuesday I got to work with Carlos Saucedo on a water shortage story (one of many I’m sure, fourth since I've been here). The new California regulation is now in effect and we had a viewer sends us video of his neighborhood where many people misuse water. The story could have been better on my end but my GoPro wasn't working. Either way, I filled it with nats and shots and made air without a hitch. Wednesday left me with Gabriel Roxas on what was a very interesting story. We were sent off to a place FBI calls “the compound” to attempt to speak with what FBI calls “dangerous gang members”. After getting some quick B-roll one of those members came up to us, friendly as can be he asked what we were doing. We told him that the FBI had arrested some of his “brothers” on a few gun and drug chargers. He was upset but thankfully not with us, he was calm and actually spoke to us on camera and said flat out “Vagos is not a gang, but a motorcycle club” he later added “we do things for the community to help not destroy”. The story its self was a great get! Very rare do these stories pan out. I won’t lie I was a little worries about my safety, in Bakersfield I have no fear. Out here being so far away from anyone I really know make a big difference! Thursday I got to work on a story I would care about and with the only reporter I knew before coming Siemny Chhuon. The kings are starting to take down the old plaza downtown where the new arena is going to be. Thursday we talked to people who are happy, don’t care and will be affected by all the construction. Pretty easy day and better then that solid week of work great way to end the last week of July

Emmy award winning Johnny Guillen!

Where to begin, never in my life would I have thought I could call myself an Emmy award winning anything. I entered the TV news business thinking I knew more about photography than anyone else. Part of me knew it was bull shit but I am regretful that I gave myself such high praise. Never entering for awards is a regret! I wish I could go back and enter for awards to challenge myself and see how good I really am or was. In 2014 I made the decision to finally submit. Thankfully I had a great partner in Johnathan Gonzales along with his great writing we won our first Emmy together. Being nominated was a great honor but winning was an absolute breath taking moment that neither one of us was ready for. I celebrating father’s day with my kids and lady when he called me to tell me the news. I ran around looking for the kids in complete joy and shock. I dropped to my knees to thank the lord and cry. It solidified what I always said about myself, I felt it more than ever “I am the #bestintheworld”. Now I know I am good but not the best in the world. This award means more than just an award. Many people win Emmy’s they have them every year. What made this one special to myself was the fact that Mr. Gonzales and I worked on this story alone, no one else had anything to do with it. We spent a combined 18 hours getting an 11 sec shot that really made the start of the story amazing. I’m not trying to discredit anyone who has won an Emmy or any award as a part of a team, I just felt proud to know that no one else had a part in this but him and I. I feel proud to know that no matter what happens to me from now until I die, I can always be referred to as Emmy award winning Johnny Guillen!
